About Bill Teeple |

Also in 1998, Bill began showing exquisite, small pencil drawings that he had been doing throughout the 80’s and 90’s. They are known as the "Tiny Drawings", some no larger than a postage stamp. Although tiny, this unique body of work conveys a sense of monumentality and profound sense of spiritual being. They are executed in a unique style that he developed over that period working with a tiny .3mm pencil. In 2001, Bill opened Gallery 51 East on the third floor above the Fairfield Square. The gallery was created to show the high level of contemporary art being created by the artists of Fairfield and others connected with Fairfield. Gallery 51 East became the venue around which the underground art scene in Fairfield began to coalesce and gain a public face. The gallery has been the pivot point in the transformation of Fairfield into a significant regional art center. For the first two years G51E operated as a commercial gallery, but in 2003 it became a non profit art space performing the role in the community more like a contemporary art museum. Bill Teeple, as artistic director of Iowa Contemporary Art (ICON), will open a new facility on the west side of the Fairfield square. The facility houses ICON Gallery and the new Bill Teeple Studio.
