The photographs show a 1/8th-inch scale model that
I constructed of a house designed by Bill Lipsey, principal of River
Studio Architects. The southwestern motif was created with a synthetic
stucco veneer applied to an exterior insulation foam system (EIFS)
applied to standard 2" × 6 " wood stud walls. I
devised the architectural details and produced the construction
drawings, all of which contributed to the design.
The main level floors are concrete slabs on grade
with radiant hot water heat. The client personally stained the concrete
surfaces with an acid wash and then applied a waxed coating resulting
in a stunning finish. The shed roof porches are constructed with
log columns supporting exposed wood beams, and wood plank purlins
supporting corrugated steel panels. Interior log columns, log beams
and joists support the wood-decked second floor.
