This schematic design model (photographed at the site) of a proposed passive solar house also located in Aspen, Colorado was also considered too extreme for the client at the time, and was not built.
The living, dining, kitchen, and bedroom areas were positioned such that they followed the topography of the site. The sloped glass walls were oriented to the south to allow the sun's energy to be directed to interior Trombe walls (massive concrete and stone walls that absorbed solar energy, and stored it for release during the night or on cloudy days).
Although the Trombe wall concept was rejected, another building envelope was arranged above a similar floor plan, retaining an aspect of a passive solar design.
